Who are we
At The Children’s Centre, we turn difficult life experiences into brighter futures. Our professional team use their extensive experience and training to build emotional safety and trust with children, young people and their families. From this place, a young person can face something they want to avoid, or fear and then begin to understand what’s happening.
Our Mission
We provide vital services for children, young people and families, turning difficult life experiences into brighter futures.
We do this by creating a safe, compassionate and therapeutic environment. Our team is expert in helping children, teens and families build new foundations to re-frame difficult experiences. So they can grow and develop for a brighter future.
Our Values
Our values underpin all that we do and how we approach the service we offer children and families. We will strive always to be:
· Innovative
· Passionate about making a difference
· Nurturing
· Community focused
How are we funded
We are an independent registered Manx charity. We rely on a number of sources of income. This includes; fundraising and voluntary income, grant making trusts, special events and some government funding for specific activities.
The annual running cost of our charity is £950,000pa. We currently receive no contracted funding from the Government. But we are able to work hard and raise nearly all that income through donations, grants, fundraising and support from partners.
We’re a UNESCO Biosphere partner
The Isle of Man is recognised by UNESCO as a Biosphere. That means we have a strong identity, excellent resources management and a focus on learning and innovation.
We’re a Biosphere partner which means we’ve made a pledge to protect the Isle of Man's natural resources, make a positive environmental impact, develop the economy in a sustainable way, support and promote the Island's culture and heritage, engage with the community and promote the outstanding living landscapes and seascapes.
So it’s our mission to make sure our action contributes to a more sustainable Isle of Man.
We will use grey water where we can, including in our poly tunnels. We have our lovely wild space / conservation area and We would like to welcome schools and families to our lovely wild space and conservation area where they can learn about habitats.
We’re working on our digital strategy and a way to exchange unused items, services or a place to seek out help. This is part of our sustainability mission and we hope it will have a significant impact on the families we work with.
Our growing strategy and use of land is underpinned by our commitments to Biosphere. This is not about gimmick but as a genuine commitment to long-term thinking and sustainability. We won the Biosphere Award 2021 in the Energy Category for our conversion from fossil fuels to sustainable technologies and solar.
