Families
Our family support service believes in the power of early intervention. So we’re here to help families, particularly those with young children, who are struggling to cope.
Our team has many years of experience of helping families with children and young people who display challenging behaviours. We’re here to guide families through the various childhood development stages, amongst other things.
How we can help
Our team are experienced to notice the early warning signs that indicate a family may be facing problems and difficulties. It means we can help prevent further family breakdown or a serious threat to the family's ongoing stability.
Families may be facing other challenges, including mental health issues or have a history of domestic violence, making our early intervention more vital than ever.
And we take a 'whole family' approach. We’re always aware that the family needs to be considered as a whole, and that every family is different. If you or someone close to you might need our support then you can make a referral to us.
NACCC Accredited Contact Centre
We believe, wherever safe to do so, children should remain in contact with both parents but we understand that when a relationship breaks down, it is sometimes hard for both parents to spend quality time together with their children and this is where The Children’s Centre can help.
Our Supervised Contact Centre is a friendly and neutral setting where children of separated families can spend time with one or both parents and sometimes other family members. We offer a child-centred environment that provides toys, games and facilities so that families can relax together and build up relationships.
At the moment we are only accepting referrals through advocates. Please contact if you need any further information.
Working together
We work closely with a number of other specialist agencies across the Isle of Man. For instance, the police, schools and the health service. Plus teachers and health visitors. This complements our whole family approach.
The support we offer depends upon the individual circumstances of each family. It could include play therapy, parental education, budgeting advice and additional classroom support.
Parenting Programmes
Our parenting courses are held at Wallberry Farm. They’re designed to help parents:
understand the various child development stages
provide parenting strategies, including how to tackle specific issues
Parenting can be extremely challenging, The Children's Centre is here to help you.
We currently have places available on all of our parenting courses. If you would like to find out more please click the ‘Get in touch link’ .
“Thank you for this course, it has been so helpful to both us. We have learnt so much, we feel like we are better able to understand our kids, better able to listen them and can now clearly see what we need to do next. It was one of the most interesting and useful courses I’ve ever attended.”
