We’re looking for volunteer marshals for the Great Manx Run. Can you help?
The Great Manx run is coming back for its second year. The event will see participants take on a half marathon, marathon relay and a 1 mile fun run. This year’s event is on Sunday 26th March at Mooragh Park in Ramsey.
We simply couldn’t make our events safe and enjoyable for all with out the support of those who are happy to volunteer a few hours of their time. We hope it’s a fun day for everyone, including our marshals! Below is a list of the positions we would need support with. We will of course try and match you to your chosen position, however we hope you can understand that this may not always be possible.
Role Descriptions
Registration Marshal
Assist in setting up signage, marketing material
Answer queries of participants
Assist in monitoring volunteers; signing in and out
Issuing of volunteer equipment and meals
Run Marshals
Direct runners on the correct run routes
Directing the participants to start lines/ relay spots
Keep pedestrians off the routes
Alert medical officers should any runners need medical attention
Control pedestrians at designated points
Advise runners to stay within the cones along the routes
Report any participant who did not follow the course
Drink / Snack Station Marshal
Ensure there are adequate drinks at the allocated drink stations and continuously refill drinks, whenever necessary
Hand out drinks to the participants in a safe and professional manner as to minimize disruption to their race
Ensure area around the drink station is free of used cups, bottles and undertake to clear as much used cups, bottles away from the race course as possible
Pack unused drinks back into the cartons and place them at the side of your drink station
Finishing Marshal
Cheer & support all participants as they approach the finishing line.
Assist in removing the timing chip from every participant at the finishing line. Arrange and bundle the timing chip in groups of 10 and pack them in the allocated boxes.
First Aid
Relevant certification and experience are required
