Our Charitable Programmes

Forest School

The ethos of the Forest School – a movement which started in Scandinavia – is to deliver a 'playful approach to education'. Many children who may struggle in the traditional classroom setting will flourish in the environment of the Forest school.

Explore through play

The Forest School is now a full-time initiative based at Laxey Glen, under the expert eye of two specially trained Forest School leaders. Classes from around the Island's primary schools have signed up to the idea, and results from all those who have taken part have been superb.

Forest School is an unapologetically challenging environment, and in that setting many individuals can be seen to flourish and grow. We have seen previously uncommunicative pupils - those with speech and language problems – become ever-more vocal, and those with attention problems show great improvement in concentration and focus.

Something for everyone

Activities at Forest School are designed to get children familiar with a whole range of woodland tools - under expert supervision. It's all good, adventurous and exciting stuff, which is clearly showing positive results. We've seen the most withdrawn children really come in to their own after attending the Forest School.
